The Fourth Anniversary Celebration of the Announcement of the Mayel Lyang Lepcha Development Board in the Floor of the Legislative Assembly.
On the 16th September 2015 Smt. Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister, West Bengal graced the Foundation Day celebration of the WBMLLDB held at Kalimpong. As the Lepchas welcomed her as the “Kingchoom Darmit”, title given to her by the community, with resounding applause, she promised them of her continued support and made a promise to come again. During her speech she said that she loved the Hills of Darjeeling and wanted it to be a place of peace and happiness for the people who inhabited the Hills.
In the presence of twenty thousand people who had gathered from the far corners of the District to see and hear her, she inaugurated several schemes of the Board and the Forest Department. The audience was entertained by cultural snippets blended with the program. The Chief Secretary, Sri Sanjay Mitra and the Chairman, Sri L. S. Tamsang addressed the gathering. The Hon Chief Minister presented the “Awards of Excellence” instituted by the WBMLLDB to the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Director General of Police and the Principal Secretary, Tribal Development Department for wholehearted and diligent service rendered to the Board and the Lepcha people at large.
The Mangar Community’s representatives were the most exuberant in the gathering and were in no hurry to leave as the Chief Minister had declared a Board for their welfare.
