The National Seminar 2014

The National Seminar on the “Recovery of Lepcha Language, Literature Culture and History” held on18 July 2014 on the occasion of the 189th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Thikoong General G.B.Mainwaring, the Champion of Lepchas.

The Mayel Lyang Lepcha Development Board organised the National Seminar on the “Recovery of Lepcha language, literature and Culture” on the 18th July 2014, at Poloongdang, Sukhia Pokhari, Darjeeling to mark the 189th Birthday Anniversary of Thikoong Gen. G.B. Mainwaring- the author of the book, “The Grammar of the Rong (Lepcha) Language as it is exists in the Dorjeling & Sikim” hills published in 1876.

The “Thikoong Mainwaring Multi Utility Centre’’ was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Shri. Sanjay K. Thade, I.A.S. the Principal Secretary of Backward Classes Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal. The cultural anthem ‘Aachulay’, ‘Aaprya Vom’ and ‘ode to Gen GB Mainwaring’ were sung. The book ‘Thikoong Gen. G. B. Mainwaring’ was released by the Chief Guest and other Guests.

A speech in English was given by Ren. Lyangsong Tamsang, Chairman, Mayel Lyang Lepcha Development Board.

vii. Dr. Tapan Kumar Das Motijyeel College, Dum-Dum, Kolkata.
viii. Renyoo Minket Lepcha, Social worker. Darjeeling.

The Mayel Lyang Lepcha Development Board’s cultural troupe entertained with traditional dances and music. The programme was sponsored by the WBMLLDB.
